Brian DeBels, CIMA®
Director of Investments, Senior Client Advisor, Partner
Brian is our Director of Research and a Senior Client Advisor. He has served on the Investment Committee at ASI since 2009, and has been an invaluable resource in asset allocation research, portfolio construction, and investment performance and monitoring since joining the firm in 2006 in our Bend office. Prior to ASI, Brian held multiple positions at Jensen Investment Management in Portland where his responsibilities ranged from research, in which he helped manage a discounted free cash flow stock valuation model, to security transactions as Head of Equity and Fixed Income Trading. He also assisted in the administration of a $2 billion mutual fund managed by Jensen.
In addition to his research work, Brian meets with clients and considers this the “rewarding part of the job”. Brian enjoys sharing how ASI connects the dots between portfolios and life—especially how life can impact portfolios.
When he’s not working, Brian loves spending time with his wife, two children and black lab. He says that he is who he is because of them. Now that he’s traded the rain of Portland for Central Oregon’s sun and fun, he can be found hitting the running trails, the golf course and ski slopes, not to mention camping at outdoor paradises like South Twin Lake. (Ask him to tell you about an outing with his son’s baseball team there.) He also went skydiving solo—which tops his “most daring” list of things he’s done.
Brian earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from Washington State University in 1996. He deems himself a “life-long learner” and continues to expand his expertise in investment management and business. He was awarded a Master of Business Administration from Concordia University in 2012, and awarded a Certified Investment Management Consultant (CIMA) certification in February 2017.
